"Wilderness Initiative"

At the Matt Talbot Center, we are dedicated to meeting the needs of the spirit, mind, and body.   While the classroom portion of our recovery program accomplishes the task of further developing the spirit and the mind, the needs of the body are met through the Wilderness Initiatives Program.  Any member involved in the outpatient recovery program is encouraged to attend weekly outings to explore Seattle and the surrounding region.  The core of the program takes place every Friday from March to October when staff and members take hiking trips throughout the Cascade Mountains including hikes to Mount Si, Twin Falls, the Big Four Ice Caves, Rattlesnake Ledge, Wallace Falls, and numerous others.  During the rainy season, we visit local museums and other arts and cultural centers.  These outings allow our members to socialize and explore Seattle in an environment free from drugs and alcohol.
