Who Was Matt Talbot?

"Who was Matt Talbot"

"It is a constancy God wants."  Matt Talbot was ever repeating that.  Born in Dublin in 1856, he was thought to be a hopeless alcoholic by his 13th birthday.  At age 28, on his knees, he made a pledge of sobriety.  He died 41 years later, in 1925, without ever breaking that pledge.

Matt Talbot worked in a lumber yard on the docks of Dublin.  he was always very poor, partly because he was so generous to people in need.  His life was marked with prayer, fasting, and the service to his brothers and sisters.  He was often in church, but always in the shadows, wishing to remain quiet before God.  Matt Talbot gave God all the credit for his conversion.  He knew what God wanted in return - his constancy, his perseverance.  He is an example to all of us.
